How Do I Prepare My Home Before the Renovation Starts?
If you are conducting a full home remodelling, you’ll need to prepare your home by decluttering, protecting valuables and making living arrangements. This will ensure that the renovation process is as smooth and efficient as possible.
What to Do to Prepare for Your Home Renovation?
Renovations are an exciting time for homeowners; however, they can be stressful and chaotic if you are not adequately prepared.
- Declutter & Pack: When it comes to a full home remodelling, you’ll need to ensure that any and all of your valuables are packed away to prevent them from becoming misplaced or damaged. You’ll also want to pack up any furniture, decor or personal belongings in each room that is being renovated, as they can interfere with the process.
- Set Up a Temporary Living Space: If your entire home is not being renovated, you’ll want to set up a temporary living space inside your home while the renovations are going on. For example, if your basement is going to remain untouched, set it up to have everything you need to live and sleep until the renovations are complete. If your whole home is being renovated, try to make alternative living arrangements outside of your home.
- Secure Pets & Children: If you have young children and pets, ensure that they are secured away from dangerous construction zones. Ensure that you block off any “off-limits” areas and make children aware of the boundaries.
- Empty Cabinetry: If you are replacing any kind of existing kitchen cabinets or storage drawers, you’ll need to ensure that they are emptied before the old ones are torn down. During this time, you should also make/find space to pack up and store your dishware.
When preparing your home for a full home renovation, it is essential to have an open line of communication with your contractor regarding timelines and danger zones during construction. If you are looking to conduct home renovations, contact Rose Building Group today!
